Winter is in full force right now but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a dewy summer glow. In this blog, we’re covering all the basics of highlighting— where to apply it, how to use it, and the best vegan highlighters to complement your makeup.

Where on Your Face to Apply Highlighter?

Highlighter is the cherry on top of your finished makeup look. It boosts your entire makeup by brightening up your eyes and defining your face. But to achieve a perfectly radiant glow you need to learn where to apply your highlighter— and we’re here to help.

Highlighting is kind of the opposite of contouring. You want to apply it to the high points of your face, avoiding your T-zone (forehead, chin, and the middle of your cheeks).

This means highlighter should be applied on:

  • The top of your cheeks
  • Your brow bone, right underneath your eyebrows.
  • Your cupid’s bow, which is the little dip right at the top of your upper lip.
  • The chin
  • The bridge of your nose, which is the very center of your nose starting at the top until the tip of your nose.
  • Collarbones
  • Optional: Add highlighter on the tip of your nose and in the inner part of the eyes for added glow!

The Best Highlighters to Boost your Makeup Look

There are different kinds of highlighters— liquid, powder, and cream. You get to choose which one is your favorite but we wanted to share with you our two favorite highlighters.

The innovative water technology in our fan-fave Water Highlighter makes it a one-of-a-kind beauty product. It’s crafted with coconut water to hydrate your skin and for an added glow you’ll love.

The ultra-blendable formula means our highlighter easily absorbs into your skin— giving you a natural makeup look.

Undone tip: Take advantage of the multitasking nature of our highlighter by using it as an eyeshadow.

Nonzer 4-in-1 Highlighter

Our multitasking highlighting palette covers all your needs in a single functional product. Use it to contour, blush, and highlight your face, plus as an eyeshadow for an iridescent, glowing look.

The light-reflecting pigments in our formulation give you a long-lasting brightness. Also, it’s crafted with coconut extract for skincare benefits (and an added glow to your skin!).

How to Use Highlighter For a Radiant Makeup Look

Highlighter is ideal to add a touch of light to your face. If you’re not sure which highlighter is best for your skin, these are a few tips to consider:

  • Powder highlighter works better on oily skin types and it’s ideal for a finishing touch on your makeup.
  • Cream highlighter works better on dry skin types and it works great both before doing your makeup or for a touch-up after.

How to Use Powder Highlighter Makeup

Powder highlighter should be one of the last steps of your makeup routine to ensure a flawless application. After you’re done applying primer, blush, or whatever else you use in your makeup routine, it’s time for the added glow.

First, grab your favorite brush. We recommend using our One Touch Apply + Blend Brush for the best application or a fan brush. Then grab your 4-in-1 Nonzer Highlighter and gently swirl your brush across the entire palette for a radiant glow. You can also choose your favorite shade and stick to that one. Our multifunctional highlighting palette lets you mix and match your favorite shades.

The high-pigment powder goes a long way, so there’s no need to overdo it.

Start by applying it to the high point of your cheeks, giving them a slight brush. You want to dust your cheeks, aiming for a barely-there look. Repeat by applying it to your brow bone, cupid’s bow, and nose bridge.

If you overdo it, simply use a blending brush to even it out.

How to Apply Cream Highlighter Makeup

Cream highlighter has a multitasking benefit to it— you can use it before applying foundation for a subtle glow or after for a more bold look. You choose which option you like better!

To use our Water Highlighter, simply take the cap off and gently swipe the stick along the high points of your face. Then, take your favorite brush and blend it until you achieve a soft, dewy glow on your face. You can also use your fingertips to blend it— making it perfect for a minimalist makeup look.
